Our Mission & Philosophy

The mission of Virginia International Academy is twofold: it seeks to endow its students with an exceptional immersion experience, thereby providing American schools with international students fully equipped for entering into mainstream academic programs.

Virginia International Academy’s one-year program provides support through English-as-a-Second-Language classes, while also giving transition preparation by which students learn valuable life skills, such as self-reliance, time management and budgeting. VIA students take daily classes through Chelsea Academy, a Catholic preparatory school in Front Royal, VA. Chelsea Academy boasts one of the most innovative foreign language programs in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

Exercising a total-immersion method, the language program is geared toward the development of students’ communication skills, reading comprehension and academic writing. Emphasis is given to the acquisition of the language through daily listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. This helps students develop their knowledge of the language, while also applying it during daily life.

In addition to classes, students are strongly encouraged to participate in sports and weekend activities sponsored by both VIA and Chelsea Academy. Moreover, VIA more fully prepares its international students for entrance into the culture of American high schools by encouraging them to participate in a variety of social activities, such as attending professional athletic games and experiencing American holidays.
