Viva Lewis! Why This Campus Became My Home Away from Home
My Journey to Lewis University
Hello! My name is Sheferaw, and I’m a graduate student in the Education program at Lewis University, Class of 2025.
I came to Lewis University in the year 2021 right after COVID. The journey to Lewis was very smooth, thanks to the Christian Brothers in Midwest District and their leadership team, the University Administration, and, of course, the great people in the International Student Office on campus. It was not easy to get through the admission and immigration process in the midst of the pandemic. Thanks to the wonderful people at Lewis, I made it through.

A Home Away From Home
Lewis feels like my second home, a home away from home. I have had no major challenges since my arrival. It is a very diverse community built on the core values of the Lasallian charism. Every day, I learn so many new realities of life as I move around the campus.
Supported by Caring Faculty and Staff
The dedication of the staff and faculty to help and accommodate my requests have been terrific. I would like to thank all the people in the IT department and in various Learning Resource Center offices for their cooperation and tremendous help. I also have great admiration and respect of the knowledge and expertise of my professor’s practice.
Inspired by Athletics
Lewis’s athletic features are so amazing. I admire all the young people who have been involved in sports activities besides their academic endeavors. I was once a soccer player during my undergrad years and I am a living witness to how sports activities rejuvenate and re-energize one’s whole self. If age were not a restriction, I would have joined the Lewis soccer team and get the ball rolling on the beautiful soccer stadium on campus.
Learning to Balance Life and Academics
One of the most important elements in academic life is striking a balance in all our undertakings. I was blessed to be able to manage my time well. I have been so grateful and happy about my faith journey, internship activities, reading time, and class hours both virtual and face-to-face. It has been a great lesson to learn the secret of balancing activities.
Education for a Better Tomorrow
I believe education is very important and it is the only solution to tomorrow’s challenges. Lewis has assisted me with the chance to become better equipped to counter such challenges. I am convinced the best preparation that I had gone through has made me a better Brother to work for a better world.
Growing Into New Roles at Lewis
Currently I am working at the International Affairs office as an International Services Specialist. I also lecture part time at the College of Education and Social Science, Teacher Education course where my passion and trainings for teaching and leadership are in practice. What else can I ask for? Lewis is a home to train and transform self and others. I am proud that I chose to benefit from all its services. Viva Lewis!
