My MBA Journey at Lewis University
Hi, my name is Mark Tabasan, and I am currently pursuing my MBA program at Lewis University, with graduation set for Fall 2026. I wanted to share my journey, what led me here, and how Lewis has shaped both my academic and professional life.
Why I Decided to Continue My Education
I chose to pursue my MBA because I wanted to earn credits toward the CPA licensure and at the same time broaden my overall business knowledge. For me, this was about taking the next step toward building a stronger foundation for my future career.

Why Lewis University?
Lewis University stood out to me for several reasons. As a Catholic institution that upholds the Lasallian spirit, it aligned deeply with my own values as a Catholic. Its location in Greater Chicago also made perfect sense, as it’s a hub filled with opportunities for career growth. On top of that, the MBA program offers various micro-credentials, giving students like me the flexibility to tailor the program to our individual specialties.
My Experience at Lewis
From the very first day I stepped onto campus, I felt welcomed. Everybody here has been supportive, and that has made all the difference. With hundreds of student organizations to get involved in and career services that guide you through every step, Lewis makes it easy to feel part of a community.
One of the highlights of my time here so far was passing the CPA exams on my first try—something I truly credit to the strong academic preparation Lewis provided. Another proud moment was being hired as a Graduate Assistant, which has given me valuable work experience alongside my studies.
How It’s Preparing Me for the Future
The benefits I’ve gained through this program are equipping me with the knowledge and skills I’ll need to succeed long-term. Everything I’m learning is shaping me into the professional I strive to become.
The Best Part of the MBA Program
For me, the best part of the program is the professors. They are absolutely invaluable. Their expertise and mentorship are what truly make Lewis stand out. If you come here, my advice is simple: connect with them—you’ll be glad you did.
My Advice for Future Students
If you’re considering Lewis or a program like this, here’s what I would tell you:
-
Plan and strategize your journey.
-
Make the most of every opportunity that arises.
-
And most importantly, don’t forget to pause, take a deep breath, and enjoy the journey while you’re in the program.
My Current Role
In addition to being a student, I’m also working as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of International Admissions and Recruitment. In this role, I work closely with future international students, guiding them through the admissions process, and I also support current international students who may need assistance and services. It’s been a rewarding way to give back to the Lewis community while continuing to learn and grow.
Studying at Lewis University has been an incredible experience—one that has prepared me academically, professionally, and personally. I’m excited about the future and grateful for the opportunities that Lewis has given me.
