Hello! I’m Carolina, and I come from the lively city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I’m excited to share my story of how I chose Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) and how it became a key stepping stone in my dream to become a veterinarian.

My educational journey

I completed my associate's degree in pre-veterinary sciences at Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) and am now transferring to California State University, Northridge (CSUN) to study biotechnology this Fall. My ultimate goal? To become a veterinarian and make a difference in the lives of animals!

The campus is absolutely beautiful, with open spaces and natural surroundings that make it a peaceful and inspiring place to study. When I first arrived in Los Angeles, I was amazed by the city's size. Coming from a small town, I was used to being able to walk to the grocery store, but I quickly learned that I would need a car to get around. It took some time to adjust! Additionally, the language barrier presented its challenges. I often found myself struggling with certain words, making it difficult to communicate in situations like setting up a bank account or leasing an apartment. But overcoming these hurdles has made me stronger and more adaptable.

Why I chose to study in the U.S.

I chose to study in the U.S. because of the incredible opportunities available in the field of veterinary sciences, particularly in research. Studying abroad has not only strengthened my resume but also helped me improve my English skills, which are essential in my chosen career.

Discovering Los Angeles Pierce College

I found out about Pierce College while searching online for veterinary programs in Los Angeles that accepted international students. The moment I discovered they had an on-site farm, I knew this was the place for me! The hands-on experience and resources provided have been invaluable.

Looking ahead

Now, as I prepare to start my biotechnology program at CSUN, I am excited about the next steps in my educational journey. My goal is to apply to UC Davis's Veterinary School and ultimately achieve my dream of becoming a veterinarian.
